Good Friday - It is Finished?

Meditation on Good Friday

Isaiah 52: 13-53:12; Psalm 22; Hebrews 10: 16-25; John 18 :1-19:42

Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”  A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.  When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19: 28-30)

For Jesus of Nazereth, it was finished. But, in many ways, for us, the body of Christ, it was just beginning!

From this moment of dreadful darkness and pain would come, in three days, a new day.

But for now, on this Friday we call "good" for some almost incomprehensible reason, we are left with the darkness and pain.

It is finished.

For now.

It Is Finished?

It Is Finished

I think not!

Isn’t it just beginning?

This new thing?

For God so loved the World

That it is not finished,

But made anew!
